A West Coast Getaway at Rocherpan Nature Reserve

What makes an establishment or other tourism product universally accessible? Is it 10 out of 10 ticks on a checklist of international standards - or is it something more than this?  As an organisation focused on giving differently-abled children tourism experiences, universal access is the core of what we promote through the adventures we enjoy with our Warrior On Wheels families, and to d...

Build A Buggy Day

Cape Town Cycle Tour 2017
What fun we had on Saturday! We had planned a Meet & Greet for our buggy teams where the cyclists towing the buggies could meet each other and the differently-abled children who will be in the buggies and their parents. The idea was to all meet, have a chat about what to expect on the day of the Cycle Tour, get to know each other and hand over the buggies, followed by a social pizza lunch. ...

Accessible Kleinmond

In August we attended the Cape Whale Coast Mini Indaba held at Arabella Hotel and Spa, listening to key people in the area enlighten delegates as to the area's diverse tourism offerings, and dispelling the common misconception that the whale coast is all about whales... and sharks. On day 2, as attendees dispersed into groups to head out to discover the various regions of the whale ...

10 Wheelchair Accessible Kids Attractions in Cape Town

"Mom, I'm bored!" Haven't we all heard this on a Saturday morning at some point in our parental careers and made a quick decision to load the kids into the car and take a trip through our city to find something interesting for our kids to enjoy. With a wheelchair-bound child, sometimes this takes a little more planning and consideration, but our Mother City doesn't disappoint with wheelchair-acces...

Why Adventures Are Important for Children with Disabilities

Childhood is a time of climbing trees, riding bikes, poking under rocks and tumbling down grassy hills. Little minds are filled with stories of heroic daring through the books we read to them and the movies they watch. Children take these stories away and let them kindle their own desires for adventure and we see this enacted in their role play as they build their make believe forts, slay imaginar...

Horses for Hope at Pete’s Adventure Farm

Warrior On Wheels Foundation
"There is something about the outside of a horse, that is good for the inside of a man" - Winston Churchill could not have been more correct, and the prevalence of therapeutic horse riding centres for children with special needs is testament to this. On Friday 12th February we were joined by 12 differently-abled children with varying dis-abilities for a morning of interacting with and riding th...

Warrior On Wheels Foundation at Ceres Zipslide Adventures

What an amazing day! It was an early morning... a really early morning. We left home at 4:15am to fetch one of our new warriors, Xaiden and his mommy to meet up with the other new warrior, Zeah, her family, and Celeste from Friends Day Centre for the drive through to Ceres. We arrived just after 7am to be welcomed by Angelique and her team for coffee and muffins while we all completed indemnity fo...

Surf’s Up for Differently-Abled Children

[embedyt] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcEJ6iNxnx0[/embedyt] Blue skies, gentle swells and sandy toes were in the mix for a fun morning on Muizenberg beach with William 'Surfman' Leadbetter, a team of volunteers, a paramedic from ER24 and the lifeguards giving Damian Gower and Ashtan Davids a surf experience. Damian was rather nervous for his first time and got a little chilly, but came ou...

Warrior On Wheels at Ceres Zip Slide Adventures

As far as adventures go, this definitely has to be one of our highlights. For a family of three that are terrified of heights, we are now ziplining fans, eager to go back for more, thanks to the amazing team at Ceres Zip Slide Adventures. A few months ago we found ourselves standing on the first platform of another zip slide, in howling, freezing wind and we will admit, we chickened out. So this t...

Sidecar Adventures

We spent a wonderful morning doing a guided sidecar adventure from Sea Point to Eden on the Bay, stopping for hot chocolate and milkshakes before making our way back. Rod and I have been on a few bike adventures, but Damian hadn’t had his turn until this special occasion, taking a tour in a WW2 Vintage bike and sidecar. Highly recommended for anyone wanting a different experience of Cape Town.
